Sakkari and Siegmund Headline Qualifying at National Bank Open in Montreal

[MONTREAL, QC] July 9, 2025 – On Wednesday, Tennis Canada released the player list for the qualifying rounds of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers (NBO) in Montreal. As part of the ever- popular IGA Family Weekend, 32 WTA stars will compete to earn one of the 16 coveted spots in the main draw. The qualifying matches will all be decided on Saturday, July 26 at IGA Stadium. Main draw action then gets underway on Sunday, July 27, with the top 32 seeds hitting the courts starting Tuesday,
July 29.

Leading the line-up is Wimbledon quarterfinalist and 2020 US Open doubles champion Laura Siegemund. She will be joined by former World No.3 Maria Sakkari, a two-time Grand Slam semifinalist (Roland-Garros and US Open in 2021). Ajla Tomljanovic, who reached the quarterfinals of three majors (2021 and 2022 Wimbledon and 2022 US Open) is also one to watch.

Among the other standout players are the World No.2 in doubles Taylor Townsend of the United States, Renata Zarazua of Mexico and Varvara Gracheva, who now represents France. A strong contingent of rising stars will also be competing, including 23-year-old Caty McNally (USA), 21-year-old Aoi Ito and 23-year-old Moyuka Uchijima (Japan), 24-year-old Emiliana Arango (Colombia) and 21-year-old Erika Andreeva (Russia).

“This year’s qualifying field is especially strong, featuring many seasoned players who could easily compete in a main draw at other Tour events. The opportunity to see these matches for free during IGA Family Weekend makes the day all the more special. It’s the perfect way to experience professional tennis for the first time, in a welcoming, accessible and festive atmosphere,” said Valérie Tétreault, Tournament Director of the National Bank Open in Montreal. “We couldn’t have asked for a better start to what promises to be an outstanding edition of the NBO.”

The NBO and Tennis Canada will award four wild cards into the qualifying tournament later this month. One of the wild cards will go to the winner of the pre-qualifying tournament hosted by Tennis Canada at IGA Stadium during the week of July 21. IGA Family Weekend on July 26 and 27 offers a wide range of free activities for the whole family, and fans will also enjoy exclusive access to world-class tennis including main draw matches on Sunday.

Admission to the site is free, but visitors must reserve their spot by downloading their free pass available
on the NBO website.

New this year is TennisFest, a two-day celebration on August 2 and 3 that’s also free and open to all. It features live music, gourmet tastings, tennis workshops, round of 16 matches and much more.

The qualifying draw will be decided on Friday, July 25. The public main draw ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m.
