Men’s Australian Open 2025: Who Are the Wagering Favourites?

Yes, the tennis season is already underway. Yet for viewers across the globe, there’s one tournament that truly sets the stage for a year of intense competition: the Australian Open. As the first Grand Slam of the year, it is a chance for the world’s best players to make a statement and get off to a positive start.

Starting on January 12, Jannik Sinner will attempt to defend the title he won twelve months ago. Although with numerous other top contenders – including Novak Djokovic looking to add to his record-breaking ten Australian Open crowns – who are the early favourites to the lift the trophy? This guide looks at the early frontrunners for the men’s side of the tournament.

Jannik Sinner

Look at the top sports betting websites right now, and there’s only one name at the top of the list: Jannik Sinner. The bookies believe the current champion – and world number one – will repeat his 2024 heroics. In fact, he’s such a hot favourite that, at the time of writing, his odds sit around 6/4 with most outlets.

There are ample reasons why. Two majors. Eight titles in total. A fantastic 73-6 record across the 2024 campaign. Sinner took giant strides in his game last year, and the 23-year-old will be hoping to continue progressing to even greater heights.

Carlos Alcaraz

Sitting as a 3/1 shot with most bookies, Carlos Alcaraz is also viewed as having a great shot at lifting the Australian Open title. While his 2024 form was a tad more erratic compared to Sinner, he did scoop up the other two majors – the French Open and Wimbledon – for a fantastic season.

However, the four-time Grand Slam champion hasn’t had the best success in Australia. While he’s won all the other majors in his career, he’s only made it to the quarters in Melbourne. 21-year-old Alcaraz will be hoping his excellent all-round game sees him go two steps further in 2025.

Novak Djokovic

He might be 37 years old. He may not have won a major last season. However, you cannot count out Novak Djokovic – particularly at his favourite tournament. Widely regarded as the greatest tennis player of all time, Djokovic is seen as a 4/1 shot with most bookmakers right now.

Djokovic may have disappointed in the majors by his own lofty standards, but he did memorably win the Olympic Games to effectively ‘complete’ his career. With a strong desire to add to his record of 24 Grand Slams, Djokovic will always be a contender.

Alexander Zverev

You can get 11/1 on Alexander Zverev for an outside shot to claim his first Grand Slam. The current world #2 reached the semi-finals last season, beating Alcaraz on the way before dropping a five-set battle to Daniil Medvedev. With a massive serve recently dubbed the ‘most effective in the world’ by Andy Roddick, he’s one everyone will want to avoid in the draw.

Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev is, perhaps surprisingly, a 14/1 shot to win the Australian Open. He has been in the final three years out of the last four, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him make it to that stage again. Will it be the fourth time’s the charm? Medvedev will have belief he can add a second major title to his career record.
