Tennis is a sport that has seen some of the most iconic and unforgettable matches in its history. From legendary rivalries to historic comebacks, the sport of tennis has provided fans with countless moments of drama and excitement. In this article, we want to provide sports betting for Canadians fans with historic matches that they should be aware of prior to wagering on their first match. These matches have stood the test of time and continue to be remembered for their impact on the sport.

Novak Djokovic V Rafael Nadal – 2019 Australian Open Final

The 2019 Australian Open Final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal matched up two of the greatest players in the history of the sport. This match was indeed a revisit of the 2012 Australian Open final, which Djokovic had also won. Djokovic’s victory in this match not only secured him his seventh Australian Open title, but also cemented his place as one of the greatest players of all time, surpassing the record of Roy Emerson.

This match was a showcase of both players’ skill, athleticism, and endurance. Djokovic’s precision and consistency were on full display, while Nadal’s powerful groundstrokes and relentless fighting spirit kept the match competitive until the very end. The match was a five-set thriller and lasted for a little over two hours, with Djokovic ultimately emerging victorious, winning 6-3.

Kevin Anderson V John Isner – 2018 Wimbledon Semi-Final

The 2018 Wimbledon semi-final between Kevin Anderson and John Isner is considered one of the most iconic and memorable matches in recent tennis history. This match was a marathon encounter. It lasted for over six hours, with the final set alone lasting for almost three hours, making it the second-longest match in tennis history.

Anderson’s victory in this match was historic as he became the first South African player to reach a Wimbledon final since Brian Norton in 1921. The match was a represantation of both players’ stamina and endurance, as they both refused to give up despite the grueling conditions. Anderson and Isner both served extremely well throughout the match, with Anderson ultimately coming out on top, winning the fifth set 26-24.

Novak Djokovic V Andy Murray – 2016 French Open Final

The 2016 French Open final between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray was a historic match that solidified Djokovic’s place as one of the greatest players of all time. In this three hour iconic final, Djokovic defeated Murray to win his first French Open title and twelfth major title overall. This victory completed his career Grand Slam, making him the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four major titles simultaneously.

Additionally, Djokovic extended his record for the most ranking points held by any player to nearly 17,000. On the other hand, Murray also made history by becoming the first British man since Bunny Austin in 1937 to reach the final at the French Open. Though he fell short in the final, it was a great achievement for him. This match will be remembered as one of the greatest matches in the history of the French Open.

Juan Martin del Potro V Roger Federer – 2009 U.S. Open Final

The 2009 U.S. Open final between Juan Martín del Potro and Roger Federer will forever be in tennis history as one of the most iconic and unforgettable matches. Del Potro, who was relatively unknown at the time, pulled off a shocking upset against the five-time defending champion Federer, becoming the first Argentine man to win the title in 32 years and the first to win a major in five years.

The match was a display of two contrasting styles of play, with Federer’s finesse and precision taking on del Potro’s raw power and brute force. The tension was palpable as the match went into a fifth set, with Federer attempting to make history by becoming the first man to win six consecutive U.S. Open titles since Bill Tilden in 1925. Federer also had aspirations of winning the Surface Slam but it was del Potro’s relentless determination and fighting spirit that ultimately saw him emerge victorious, in a match that will be remembered for its drama and excitement.
