Tennis Statistics Explained

If you’re someone looking to make more educated decisions when wagering on tennis games, it is important to know the statistics. When it comes to wagering, tennis is one of the most popular sports due to the vast opportunities to make some extra cash. Each tournament is different, and your strategy needs to be altered with every match to gain the most capital. There are many statistics and trends for wagering on tennis, and a few apply to all games, while others may not be so succinct. Our pro’s guide to tennis betting is the only thing you need to take your knowledge to the next level, allowing you to make more informed decisions and better wagers.

Record On a Specific Surface

A great thing to research when looking for statistics surrounding certain players is the win ratio when playing on specific surfaces. The things to look out for are their overall wins and losses, along with overall performances in tournaments that have been played on the same court style. Finding this information is a great way to understand how comfortable a player is on a certain ground type and whether placing a wager on them is a good decision.

When you have compiled enough information to understand how well a certain athlete plays on a specific surface, check how well they have performed in their recent matches. Over several months will be more than enough to see if someone is in form. If you find any trends in any of these areas, there could be much to gain from the gambling perspective.

Record vs Top 10 Players

The record against the top 10 players is useful when searching for underdogs or players about to take the next vital jump in their careers. These players potentially have better odds against them, helping wagerers gain more money from their wager.

It’s only a matter of time before a player joins the elite group of athletes who consistently win against the best in the world. Players also often beat top opponents on clay and grass if they are very good at that surface. It is a great strategy to pick underdogs when wagering on tennis matches if you can identify them.

Head-To-Head Records

A player’s head-to-head record is one of the most important stats to check when wagering on tennis matches. How the two players interact during previous meetings can be determined from their previous meetings. It is normal and definitely advised that your statistical analysis comprises several factors.

It’s a good idea to stick with matches whose surfaces and formats are comparable. Additionally, consider ignoring encounters that happen under vastly different circumstances. When a player recently entered the tennis circuit but is reaching their prime years for an upcoming match, it’s best not to read too much into their previous performance.

Saved Break Points

An important factor is how the player behaves when facing a breakpoint. Defending against them is something some players are pretty good at, but when adversity strikes, they crumble.

First-Serve Points Won

This is one of the most crucial statistics as it shows how many times a player has earned points when serving. If the percentage and points won are both high, the player is surely dominating their serving game. A low percentage in this area shows that players are offering easy returns.

First-Serve Percentage

Statistics show that players above 60% first-serve percentage have a higher probability of winning, but a higher doesn’t always mean better. The optimal range is usually between 65 – 75%. Higher numbers usually show that players aren’t taking enough risks with their serves being easy to return for the opponent.

Second Serve Points Won

This statistic works similarly to the previous just regarding the second serve. With live wagering, this is one of the most useful stats, as it can help you determine potential trends of breaks to come. If a player struggles to earn points on their second serve, it could be down to their poor service game, which often results in losses.

Aces and Double Faults

Always determine the number of aces and double faults a player has accumulated during matches. A player with a lot of the former usually has a good chance of escaping difficult situations with great ease. If the opposite is the general outcome, a player could have a lot of nerves or low confidence when playing.
