The Day after Federer – Which New Stars Have A Great Potential

When news of Roger Federer’s retirement came to the fore, the fanbase had mixed reactions. One comment that summed up everything well was from Judy Murray, the Scottish tennis coach, and Andy Murray’s mother. She noted that Federer’s retirement signified the end of an unprecedented era.

However, Federer’s retirement also signifies the conclusion of a larger era that was defined by many other top-rated players. Tennis betting fans on platforms like Betway will agree that the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have also been part of this era, regarded as one of the greatest eras of men’s tennis. In this regard, you can book a bet on the online sportsbooks to wager on your favorite tennis player. Collectively, the three top tennis players have defined a transcendent and remarkably durable period in tennis history.

Their achievements mirror Serena Williams’ career, who also announced that she was stepping away from the sport. The stubborn persistence of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic has also prevented many “next generations” from making it to the top. With Nadal being 36 and Djokovic 35, it means they might not carry on for longer. Federer’s announcement also reminded the world of tennis that the end for the three great men would come.

Which new stars have the potential to take up from where these three have left?

Promising Stars

Carlos Alcaraz is the new United States Open champion. He took to his Twitter account to thank Roger Federer. He thanked Federer for everything he had done for the sport. Furthermore, he claimed that he still wanted to play with him.

Alcaraz was the youngest men’s player to reach number one when he won the U.S. Open at 19. Other notable budding stars include Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, and Nick Kyrgios. Moreover, Jannik Sinner, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Dennis Shapovalov have what it takes to reach the top.

Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal have dominated the world of tennis for nearly a decade. But, for the first time in 20 years, it seems likely, even with Djokovic and Nadal still in the game, for the budding stars to start shining.

A.T.P launched the Next Generation Finals in Milan in 2017. Karen Khachanov and Zverev Medvedev were invited. Others who participated in the tournament include Shapovalov and Jared Donaldson, who retired with an injury.

Since the tournament, only Medvedev has won a major title. Apart from that, the “Next generation” players were smashed, often by one of the three big names. The other older players were also left to play for leftovers. Tennis betting fans on Betway will be watching closely to see which player will step up to occupy the place left by Federer.

When Youzhny retired in 2018, he claimed that the big three did not give anyone else a chance to win. But, as the big three come to the twilight of their illustrious careers, those eager to replace them at the top must raise their game. The question is – will the next generation of stars sustain a decade of domination in the sport? Who are the upcoming players ready to take the mantle?
