US Open—Flushing Meadows, New York
No. 5 seed Casper Ruud reached the quarterfinals of the US Open on Sunday, easily dispatching Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-2.
Needing three hours and 20 minutes to advance, Ruud struck 43 winners, hit five aces and broke serve on seven occasions. The French Open finalist will next face No. 13 seed Matteo Berrettini, who defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Elsewhere, rising American Coco Gauff will look to advance to the quarterfinals of the year’s final Major when she faces Shuai Zhang. Gauff, who made the French Open final earlier this year, remains the favourite for many of the oddsmakers.
Tonight’s night session will be highlighted by top seed Daniil Medvedev taking on No. 23 seed Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios recently defeated Medvedev at the National Bank Open in Montreal, Canada.
Tomorrow’s schedule of play in New York will feature No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal facing No. 22 seed Frances Tiafoe and top seed Iga Swiatek taking on Jule Niemeier.
