Former world No. 1 and 13-time French Open winner Rafael Nadal stormed into the second round of the event on Monday. Defeating Jordan Thompson 6-2, 6-2, 6-2, Nadal recorded his 106th victory at the event, and will next face Corentin Moutet in round two. Moutet defeated former winner Stan Wawrinka in four sets earlier in the day.
Elsewhere, Cameron Norrie and Taylor Fritz also prevailed, while No. 17 seed Reilly Opelka lost in straight sets to Filip Krajinovic.
Top seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic breezed into round two to end the night session, dismissing Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3, 6-1, 6-0.
On the women’s side, defending champion Barbora Krejcikova was ousted by Diane Parry in three sets, while reigning and former US Open winners Emma Raducanu and Bianca Andresscu moved into round two.
Tuesday’s action in Paris will include Daniil Medvedev, Paula Badosa, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Simona Halep.
