Djokovic, Swiatek Win Italian Open Titles

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic captured his sixth Italian Open title on Sunday in Rome, Italy, defeating No. 4 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-0, 7-6(5).

After a breathtaking first set, Djokovic’s level dip in set two and his Greek opponent increased his groundstroke game. After recovering from a 4-1 deficit, Djokovic rediscovered his level from the first set and never looked back.

Needing one hour and 36 minutes to claim his crown, Djokovic hit six aces won 81 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on four occasions.

Improving to 7-2 against Tsitsipas in lifetime meetings, Djokovic now owns 87 career titles.

Tsitsipas, who was aiming to win his second Masters 1000 event of the season, will move up to No. 4 in world on Monday. The 23-year-old won the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters earlier this season.

Earlier in the day, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek continued her absolute dominance of the WTA by winning her fifth straight title. The former French Open winner defeated recent Madrid Open champion Ons Jabeur 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 22 minutes.

Winning 69 percent of her first serve points, while breaking serve on five occasions, Swiatek improved to 2-2 against Jabeur in lifetime meetings.

Jabeur, who has also been in sensational form as of late, will move up to No. 6 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released.

The world’s best players will next look to complete at the French Open, which will begin on May 22nd. Djokovic will be vying to win his 21st career Major, while Swiatek will be looking to capture her second Grand Slam.
