Montreal, April 26, 2022 – The official draw for the Davis Cup Finals by Rakuten was held todayin Malaga, Spain. The 16 countries that qualified for the Finals were divided into four groups. Team Canada presented by Safeway will be in Group B along with Spain, Serbia, and the Republic of Korea in a round-robin tournament to be held in Valencia, Spain.
“It is with great pride that we will be participating in the Davis Cup Finals for the third consecutive year. Although we will face tough opponents, we know that any country can make it to the top. Our players will be ready and will arrive in Valencia with a lot of energy,” said Team Canada captain Frank Dancevic following the draw.
Each group will play the round-robin portion of the event in a different city – Bologna, Glasgow, Hamburg, and Valencia – from September 14 to 18. The top two teams from each group (based on wins, then percentage of sets and games won/lost) will qualify for the final phase of the tournament (quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals) to be held November 21-27, 2022, at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena in Malaga, Spain.
A few weeks ago, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced that it had granted Canada (ranked no. 6 in the world) a wild card for this year’s Davis Cup Finals as the highest-ranked nation to lose in the 2022 qualifiers.
