Andujar Wins Marrakech Title; Johnson Repeats as Houston Champion

Grand Prix Hassan II—Marrakech, Morocco

World No. 355 Pablo Andujar completed a stunning week of action in Marrakech, Morocco, defeating No. 2 seed and world No. 26 Kyle Edmund 6-2, 6-2 to win his fourth career title on Sunday. Using a protective ranking to enter the event because of a slew of injuries throughout the last few years, Andujar won 70 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on six of 10 occasions. Winning three of his four titles in Morocco, (after having previously won in Casablanca in 2011 and 2012) the 32-year-old will catapult his ranking to around No. 150 in the world on Monday.

Edmund, who was in search of his first career title, defeated Richard Gasquet in the semifinals.

American Steve Johnson repeated as the champion of the ATP World Tour event in Houston, Texas on Sunday, defeating countryman Tennys Sandgren 7-6(2), 2-6, 6-4.

In a match that lasted two hours and 22 minutes, Johnson struck five aces, won 75 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on two occasions.

Never facing Sandgren on Tour prior to today’s encounter, Johnson also defeated four other Americans en route to the finals, including Frances Tiafoe, John Isner and Taylor Fritz.

Sandgren, who way vying for his first career title, fell to 10-8 on the season. The 26-year-old also reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in January.
