Brasil Open—Sao Paulo, Brazil, Brazil
No. 2 seed Fabio Fognini captured his sixth career title in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Sunday, defeating Chilean Nicolas Jarry 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. After losing the first set in 21 minutes, Fognini rebounded to dominate the second set in similar fashion. Using his baseline movement and experience to offset his powerful opponent, the Italian broke serve on four occasions during the 91 minute affair.
Jarry, who has enjoyed a fruitful South American swing this season, will see his ranking increase to approximately No. 59 in the world on Monday. The 22-year-old from Santiago, Chile also reached the semifinals in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last week and the quarterfinals in Quito, Ecuador the week before. The 6’6″ double-hander also won both his Davis Cup matches against Ecuador earlier this year.
