Bryans To Finish No. 1 In Year-End Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings For Record 10th Time

Bryans To Finish No. 1

PONTE-VEDRA BEACH, FLORIDA, U.S.A. — American brothers Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan have clinched the year-end No. 1 Emirates ATP Doubles Team Ranking for a record 10th time and for the sixth consecutive season.

The 36-year-old twins were guaranteed the year-end No. 1 ranking after winning their quarter-final at this week’s Shanghai Rolex Masters, where they are attempting to complete the Career Golden Masters — the first team to win all nine of the existing ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events. They have lifted seven trophies from 10 finals in 2014, including their fifth at the US Open, which represented a record 100th team title, and also at four ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo and Cincinnati.

“It’s very meaningful to finish the season as the No. 1 team,” said Mike. “This is always our top goal beginning the year and to achieve this for a 10th time seems a little unreal. We’re now shifting our focus to a strong finish to the year highlighted by the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.”

Bob said, “We’ll look back on the 2014 season with a lot of pride because we played so well on home soil. Winning both Davis Cup matches, the four [ATP World Tour] Masters 1000s, and our fifth US Open was a big thrill for us. Huge thanks to our coach, David Macpherson, for helping us continue to improve and our families for the love and support.”

Chris Kermode, ATP Executive Chairman and President, said, “To finish the season as the No.1 doubles team for a 10th year is unprecedented. Bob and Mike’s achievements speak for themselves and they continue to set the standard – they are a credit to the doubles game and to men’s tennis in general. Many congratulations to both of them for yet another remarkable season.”

They also finished as the ATP World Tour No. 1 Doubles Team in 2003, ’05-’07 and ’09-13.

The Bryans are bidding to crown their season by winning the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the fourth time, adding to titles in 2003-04 and 2009. They have qualified for the eight-team season finale for the 13th consecutive time (2001, 2003-2014). No doubles event was held in 2002.
