Roland Garros—Paris, France
No. 7 seed Maria Sharapova won her second Roland Garros title on Saturday over Simona Halep, defeating the Romanian 6-4 6-7(5) 6-4. The Russian captured her fifth major in front of a sold out crowd on Court Philippe Chatrier. Needing three hours and two minutes to prevail, Sharapova struck three aces, won 61 percent of his first serve points and hit 46 winners in total. Halep, who was appearing in her first-career Grand Slam final, did not lose a set prior to the Championship match. Sharapova entered Roland Garros by winning in Stuttgart and Madrid.
