Top seed Rafael Nadal captured his 27th career Masters 1000 title on Sunday in Madrid, Spain, defeating No. 10 seed Kei Nishikori 2-6, 6-4, 3-0 ret. After being outplayed in the first set, Nadal overcame a break of serve in the second set to outlast his inform opponent. Suffering from a back injury midway through the second set, Nishikori called it a day after he dropped the first three games of set three. With the win, Nadal improved to 30-5 on the season and now owns three titles in 2014. Nishikori, who entered Madrid on the heels of winning the Barcelona Open, will crack the top 10 in the rankings for the first time on Monday.
