The 2025 US Open is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and exciting Grand Slam events in recent memory. World No. 1s and reigning US Open singles champions Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner are set to lead the women’s and men’s draws, respectively, as the action returns to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
Joining Sabalenka and Sinner at the top of the seeding list are World No. 2s Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz—two young superstars who have already etched their names into the tournament’s history. Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion, and Alcaraz, who claimed the title in 2022, are both expected to be major title contenders again this year.
Former Grand Slam Champions Add Depth and Experience
This year’s US Open main draw will feature an impressive group of former Grand Slam champions. A total of 18 players with at least one major singles title to their name are confirmed, including 10 past US Open singles champions. This mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars ensures fans can expect high-level tennis from the first round all the way through to Championship Sunday.
American Players Set the Pace with Strong Representation
The United States will be well-represented in both the men’s and women’s draws, with a total of 30 players receiving direct entry based on the ATP and WTA rankings as of July 14, 2025. That includes 16 American women and 14 American men, making the U.S. the leading nation in terms of participation.
Among the American women, Coco Gauff leads the charge as the World No. 2. She is joined by fellow Top-10 contenders Jessica Pegula (No. 4), Amanda Anisimova (No. 7), and Madison Keys (No. 8). All four players have the experience and firepower to go deep into the tournament.
On the men’s side, the American hopes will rest on the shoulders of Top-10 standouts Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton. Both players have delivered consistent results on the ATP Tour this year and are poised to make a strong push in New York.
Protected Rankings: Big Names Make Their Return
Nine players will be using special or protected rankings to gain direct entry into the main draw. Notable names among them include two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova (entered at No. 14), Australian fan favorite Nick Kyrgios (No. 21), and Romanian veteran Sorana Cirstea (No. 37). These players, returning from injury-related absences, add an unpredictable element to the tournament and could potentially cause early upsets.
Cutoff Rankings and Entry Deadlines
Entry into the singles main draw was determined by ATP and WTA rankings published on July 14, 2025. The women’s ranking cutoff for direct entry was World No. 99, while the men’s cutoff came in at No. 101. This ensures a competitive field filled with the best-performing players from the 2025 season so far.
Tournament Dates and Fan Week Festivities
The 2025 US Open Singles Main Draw is scheduled to run from Sunday, August 24, through Sunday, September 7. All matches will take place at the iconic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York.
Before the main draw action begins, tennis fans can enjoy Fan Week, which kicks off on Monday, August 18. This popular lead-in event features the US Open Qualifying Tournament, giving rising stars a chance to break into the main draw, as well as the Mixed Doubles Championship and other interactive fan experiences.
Final Thoughts
With a deep field featuring current champions, past legends, and rising American stars, the 2025 US Open promises two weeks of world-class tennis. Whether you’re attending in person or following from home, this year’s tournament is set to deliver thrilling storylines, emotional victories, and unforgettable moments on the sport’s biggest stage.

Bernard Tomic is my favorite to win the 2025 U.S. Open. He has to beat Henrique Rocha today, 20 August, if the rain allows, and , I think, a third round of qualies, before he can begin to work his way through the draw. It is a long shot, but his hanging in there after getting lost along the way has shown a lot of heart. I like underdogs and Bernie Tomic is one who has tremendous talent. He is sort of a modern day Miloslav Mecir with pace, no pace, flat, some spin, clever serving. Ask Mats Wilander how good Mecir was. I only wish that Mecir could have his career again so i would be able to focus on extraordinarily different game. In the meantime, GO TOMIC.
