Djokovic and Gauff Look to Defend
Recent Olympic Gold Medal winner Novak Djokovic and American star Coco Gauff are your 2023 defending champions.
Djokovic continued his hot streak in NYC last year by capturing his 24th career Major over Daniil Medvedev.
The Serbian legend returns in 2024 with nothing left the prove. The 37-year-old has captured every single major event in tennis and will be relaxed and ready for a deep run in Flushing Meadows.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will round out the top three favourites with Djokovic.
Gauff, who has been under par this year, will have some work to do if she is to defend. Cleaning up during last year’s summer events, Gauff returns to Ashe Stadium with a slew of eager contenders.
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and two-time Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka will also be ready for more Major glory.
China’s Qinwen Zheng, who recently won the Gold Medal at the Olympics will also be a player to watch for during the fortnight.
Will Shelton and Anisamova Shine in New York?
Reaching the semifinals of the US Open last year, Ben Shelton will have a lot to prove in 2024. While his results haven’t been as top-shelf this year, his personality is well suited to the New York crowd and we will be ready for another second week performance.
If you’re looking for a dark-horse on the women’s side, look no further that to American Amanda Anisamova.
Reaching the finals of the Canadian Open, the 22-year-old will be ready to show that her big-hitting game is well suited to the courts in Flushing Meadows.
Will this year be the year that dark-horse takes the title? Never say never.
