Before the main draw gets underway on August 26th, the 128 player men and women qualifying draws take over centre stage for week one.
The American Hopes
Everybody loves a winner and that sentiment reigns supreme in America. While second place is nothing to be ashamed of, the US Open crowd would love nothing more than to see an American player lift the title.
Coco Gauff did her part by hoisting the hardware in 2023, but on the men’s side, there’s hasn’t been a homegrown winner since Andy Roddick took the title more than 20 years ago.
Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Sebastien Korda, Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe will have the hopes of a Nation on their side as they look to end the drought for an American male winner.
The Contenders
Defending champion Novak Djokovic will be in the house and will be motivated to keep his mojo going from capturing the Olympic Gold Medal. Carlos Alcaraz will be aiming for his fifth Major and third in a row, while world No. 1 Jannik Sinner will be adamant to finish the year with his second hard-court Grand Slam.
On the women’s side, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek returns with hopes of capturing her sixth Major and second in New York. Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina will also be on hand to complete a powerful duo at the top of the game.
