Former world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov caused the upset of the Rolex Shanghai Masters on Wednesday, upsetting top seed Carlos Alcaraz 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
After dropping the first set, Dimitrov elevated his game and his serve to offset his Spanish opponent.
Still in search of his first title since 2017, Dimitrov will next face Nicolas Jarry for a place in the semifinals. The Chilean dismissed Diego Schwartzman in three sets.
Elsewhere, Frenchman and No. 32 seed Ugo Humbert easily dispatched J.J. Wolf in straight sets and will next face No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev, who dispatched No. 12 seed Tommy Paul in straight sets.
Thursday’s schedule in Shanghai will be highlighted by the Ben Shelton taking on Sebastian Korda.
