Rolex Paris Masters—Paris, France
Unseeded Dane Holger Rune won his maiden ATP Tour Masters 1000 title on Sunday in Paris, France, defeating 6-time winner Novak Djokovic 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
In match that lasted over two hours and 32 minutes, Rune used his world-class backhand and unbelievable nerve to capture his third title of the season. Striking six aces and winning 69 percent of his first serve points, Rune broke his Serbian opponent on three occasions.
Saving match points in his first round versus Stan Wawrinka, Rune upended five-straight top ten players to claim his biggest career title.
Entering the top 10 as a result of his victory, Rune will now head to the Next Gen Finals in Milan, Italy as the overwhelming favourite.
The 19-year-old has also made four straight finals on Tour.
Djokovic, who was looking to win his 91st career title, recently captured back-to-back titles in Tel Aviv and Astana.
The legendary champion will next compete at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.
