Miami Open—Miami, Florida
Top seed Ash Barty continued her fine form on the WTA after she claimed the Miami Open title on Sunday in Miami, Florida. Prevailing after her opponent Bianca Andreescu retired after trailing 6-3, 4-0, Barty hit five aces, won 81 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on four occasions.
Andresscu, who poured in a monumental effort in reaching the finals, turned her ankle after trailing 2-0 in the second set.
Defeating Maria Sakkari, and Garbine Muguruza earlier in the event, Andresscu was attempting to complete her collection of winning the three biggest titles in the United States. The Canadian had previously won titles in Indian Wells and the US Open in 2019.
Barty, who has now won two titles at the Miami Open, is a former French Open winner. The Australian claimed her lone Major title at the French Open in 2019.
The next Major on the tennis schedule will be at Roland Garros and will be held from May 17 to June 6.
