Great match from both players but more so Del Potro who did well to overpower Roger and kept him off his A game. Roger had numerous chances to take control of the match but it never seemed likely to happen. Del Potro’s sheer power off the forehand and the way he paced himself during the match kept Roger off balanced and second guessing himself and his opponent.
With an abysmal service game and his inability to react to an opponent who was quite confident and content to just spin in his first serve and take control of the rally, Roger was basically kissing the US Open’s Trophy (in his mind) but actually goodbye.
Well done Del Potro.
