AEGON Championships—London, England

Defending champ Andy Murray, and four-time winner Andy Roddick, both advanced to the second-round of the Queen’s Club event on Tuesday.

Murray had a slightly tougher go at it against Ivan Navarro, withstanding a first set charge by his serve and volley opponent.

After squeaking out the first set tiebreak, Murray breezed through the second set on the strength of two breaks of serve.

Improving to 17-8 on the year, the Scot, or Brit as he’s known in London, will next face Mardy Fish or Santiago Giraldo on Thursday.

Encountering sub par results on the European clay, Murray remains hopeful that his grass-court campaign will end in better form.

Three time Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick was relentless in reaching the second-round. Needing 50 minutes to advance, Roddick converted on his third match point after his opponent Igor Kunitsyn overhit a forehand.

Advancing with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-1, Roddick sent a clear message that his lack of commitment to the clay season could result in grass-court success.

Striking 12 aces in total, Roddick will next face No. 14 seed Dudi Sela, or former US Open quarterfinalist Gilles Muller.

Wednesday’s action at Queen’s Club will feature recent French Open champion Rafael Nadal. Nadal won the Queen’s Club event in 2008.
