ATP World Tour Finals—London, England
Argentine Juan Martin del Potro won his second consecutive match against Roger Federer on Saturday in London, defeating the defending champ 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3 to reach the semifinal portion of the event.
Beating Federer to win the Basel title in late October, del Potro used his powerful serve and bludgeoning forehand to take the first set in a tiebreaker. Losing his serve to start set two, del Potro raced out to a 3-0 lead in the third set before closing out the match in two hours and one minute.
The win improved del Potro to 2-1 in the Group B action, while dropping Federer to a 2-1 record.
Del Potro joins Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray in the semifinals. Pairings for Sunday’s final four matches will be determined after tonight’s encounter between David Ferrer and Janko Tipsarevic.
