Federer wins Rotterdam title over del Potro

Top seed Roger Federer won his 71st career title in Rotterdam on Sunday, defeating Juan Martin del Potro, 6-1, 6-4.

In a match that lasted one hour and 26 minutes, Federer saved seven breaks points in total, while striking a volley winner on his third match point. Increasing his head-to-head lead against del Potro to 9-2, Federer improved to 12-2 in 2012.

Entering Rotterdam after a disappointing effort in Davis Cup action, Federer will next play on Tour at the Dubai Open.

Earning € 290,550 for his efforts, Federer will remain in the No. 3 position in the rankings on Monday. Del Potro, who is currently ranked No. 10 in the world, will rise to No. 9 on Monday.
