WADA Asks For Further Investigation On Agassi Drug Use

The World Anti-Doping agency has asked the tennis world, and more specifically the ATP and ITF to investigate the story that broke of Agassi using Crystal Meth in 1997, and then lying to tour officials about it. This is just another chapter in the ongoing saga that started about two weeks ago when excerpts of the soon-to-be released book came out.
“Our task is to protect the clean athletes and to make sure that these sorts of things don’t recur,” Howman said by telephone. “And if we didn’t take any steps, somebody would be knocking on our door saying, ‘Well, what are you doing about this?’”
As we have mentioned before, the big news here is that the Agassi lied to the tour when he failed a drug test. The ATP took Agassi’s suggestion that he drank a tainted drink as the truth and then decided to drop the issue entirely instead of penalizing Agassi. Agassi admitted to using the drug on and off during the entire 1997 season after his divorce from Brooke Shields, a tailspin in his tennis career.
When the ATP was asked for comment about WADA letter they responded, “The ATP can confirm it has received a letter from WADA,” the tour said in a statement e-mailed to the AP on Monday. “When it responds it will do so directly to WADA and not through the media.”
