Andy Roddick Pulls Out Of Davis Cup

We still don’t know if this is for physical reasons or mental ones but Andy Roddick has pulled out of the next week’s Davis Cup clash against Croatia. Andy has cited his reason as a right hip flexor which he claims he hurt during Friday’s classic Wimbledon final. Andy did appear to hurt himself at one point jarring his leg while trying to slide on the worn out grass. This is a major blow to the US team.
“Andy has been a stalwart for this team the past nine years, and his dedication to Davis Cup and his team-mates is unquestioned,” US captain Patrick McEnroe said.
“Andy had a great run at Wimbledon. He battled for more than four hours yesterday and fought hard to reach the final. Understandably, his body is not up for the rigours of Davis Cup in such a short turnaround.”
Roddick will be replaced by close friend Mardy Fish.

guys, r u shocked any didnt move up in the new rankings?
i knew roger would retake number one, but roddick not getting a top five nod? wow.
Yes it is kinda surprising but overall DelPo has had a better year. I think Roddick cares more about the loss than the ranking. The ATP ranking are an imperfect science.
Yeah, I’m shocked. He was written off early on and yet he kept knocking opponents down and through to get to the finals and then got as close as a man can to winning. What an accomplishment! He has put the world on notice that he is in the kind of form and fitness that we have never seen from him but should get used to. Top 5 nod appropriate? No question- yes.
Andy Roddick may haven’t got to the top five, but he handled the
loss with grace and class!! Good for him.
I give Andy all the credit in the world for his performance Sunday, but I don’t know that I can say he handled it with grace and class. Remember when Roger told him in the trophy presentation that he knew what Andy was feeling after going through last year’s final? Roddick interupted him and said “you’ve won five”. Again, I give Andy credit for how he played but that doesn’t seem like grace and class to me.
In all fairness Alex, I think Andy was trying to be funny. He does have one of those dry senses of humour.
